Students from St. Francis International and St. Anthony schools earn Lucinda Jasper Scholarships

Karla Palmer, a student of St. Francis International School in Silver Spring and the daughter of Charmaine Hart, has been awarded the first place scholarship of The Lucinda L. Jasper Scholarships. As first place winner, Palmer was awarded a $1,500 scholarship. She will attend the Academy of Holy Cross in Kensington this fall.
Victor Hall, a student at St. Anthony School in Washington and the son of Judith Hall, won second place and was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
He plans to attend DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville this fall.
The scholarships were first awarded in 1993 and are named in memory of Mrs. Lucinda L. Jasper, who taught in parochial schools for over 30 years and was a strong advocate of a Catholic education. The scholarships are awarded annually to graduates of Catholic grade schools in the Archdiocese of Washington who plan to attend a Catholic high school in the achdiocese. To apply one must write an essay on an African-American who has influenced them to continue on to higher education, and submit an application form, a recommendation by a teacher and a verified academic record from the school.
