At Verizon Center, youth rally for 'the gift of life'
At the annual Youth Rally and Mass for Life at the Verizon Center in Washington on Jan. 23, the 17,000 teen-agers and young adults from across the country who nearly filled the arena despite warnings of icy weather were thanked for standing up for the dignity of all human life, and for doing so with a spirit of joy.

HHS delays, but does not change, rule on contraceptive coverage
Although Catholic leaders vowed to fight on, the Obama administration has turned down repeated requests from Catholic bishops, hospitals, schools and charitable organizations to revise its religious exemption to the requirement that all health plans cover contraceptives and sterilization free of charge.

The Archdiocese of Washington echoes the concerns raised by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in a statement released Friday in response to the Obama Administration's decision to enact regulations that will force most Catholic employers to provide health care plans covering sterilization procedures and all FDA approved contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs.

'It's Tebow time'
In a football season marked by amazing fourth quarter comebacks and four overtime victories, Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow not only connected with wide receivers racing for the end zone. Through prayer and later through an act of kindness, Tebow connected with Joey Norris, a 13-year-old eighth grader from Our Lady of Mercy School in Potomac who is battling leukemia.

With American flags waving and yellow ribbons tied around the trees, it was a true hero's homecoming for Father Grantley Gaskin at St. Raphael School in Rockville, as the students, faculty and staff welcomed back the U.S. Army chaplain returning from a year-long tour of duty in Afghanistan.
